An eerie silence
Our world is unrecognizable.
Normal day-to-day functions feel foreign.
Anxiety runs deep as our economy becomes crippled.
The very act of going for a walk is daunting and uncomfortable. As you pass people, they look at you with fear, possibly even terror, knowing you may be a carrier. And you, do likewise. We fear one another as we step out of our homes. There are continual new rules and hotlines to call. Our anxiety heightens as we hear stories of people who are penalized for breaking rules they did not know about.
Our lives are greatly disrupted.
We are in a world we do not know.
It’s eerie. It’s silent.
It’s surreal.
Together, we isolate.
We are healthy, but find ourselves quarantined. Our streets are empty, shops and restaurants closed; and our economies devastated. In this, we draw closer to one another. We share fear and anxiety, along with the comfort and understanding we bring one another.
Humanity craves relationship. In isolation we create new ways to communicate, more intention to connect. Strength is drawn from one another.
Humanity craves hope and strength and for this, we turn to God. He holds the world in His hands. The emptiness is His to fill.
Lean into your community. Trust in God. Do this together.
Remember the meaning you found in the silence. The emptiness of today will become a memory. My daughter, Kaylin and I, photographed a story of Edmonton’s empty streets.
