Give life a chance to surprise you

What happened to that special feeling?

Life can feel incredibly ordinary.

As the years go by, it seems our passions can easily dull.

There are lists and schedules that dictate our days. If we were able to take a step back, we might even see that the things we are doing is actually the fulfilment of our dreams from the past. We are so busy “doing”, that we neglect to feel the magic.

You can shape direction

Recently, I’ve come to see I have some control as to how I experience my life. Every good and every difficult thing offers me choices as to how I’m going to approach it. I can allow myself to ride the wave of the emotions and the reality. Sometimes when the pressures become great, I give into feeling fear and panic. Anxiety builds and everything becomes burdensome. Things and people cause me to feel frustrated and I feel alone. I have the choice to nurture those feelings and watch them intensify.

Over recent days, I’ve conscientiously decided to approach positive and negative things with thankfulness. It can be difficult at times to find that point of thankfulness, but then I realize there is something to be thankful for and I change how I approach things.

Expect more

I begin to expect things to go better with my attitude and the way I see things. It’s a marvel how my spirit lifts, and with that, circumstances often change as well.

Life wants to give me surprises.
It waits.
It will let me bask in misery.

Or, it will change with my hopes.
These may not look as I expect.

As I step towards anticipation and appreciation, surprise happens.

Lean in

As you make the effort to create art, to make something out of your situation,
to embrace what life has given you, and to lean in for more, you will marvel that life will surprise you.

It takes time and effort to express gratitude.
Thankfulness changes our point of view.
It gives hope a chance to do its work.

Joy differs from happiness.
It gives you strength and the hope to move on.

For me, the surprise of life happened when I allowed crisis and darkness to become the foundation of my future.
This future is a place I flourish.
The point of view differs from the past.
It’s founded on thankfulness.

If you’ve seen life deliver surprises, share them with our audience in the comments, or send me a private note. Your story matters.
