The Serenity of a Chaotic Move
The restlessness had been increasingly growing. It was time for a change.
I was sensing a desire to go home, which made little sense as Cam and I have spent more time in our house than ever during this pandemic. I found myself imagining a green space behind us…a somewhat idyllic bungalow, with a lower level that could be filled with kids and grandkids.
I shared “some” of these thoughts with Cam, and the timing was such we both though we might call a realtor and “just see”. We met the realtor on a Saturday, listed our house on March 17 at 12 pm. Within 5 hours, we had 12 showings and 5 offers. We accepted one that night, and put in an offer to another home and on April 16, less than 30 days from listing, we moved into our new home. It was one that met the needs we expressed and many we hadn’t. It involves a 22 min commute to work. All of these things bring about quiet. It’s the inhale that enables the exhale to take place.
The move was remarkable. Our kids, their families, dear friends and the Iconium team came together, simplified the process and made it enjoyable. Thank you so much to all who helped in so many ways.
As I’ve reflected on the details that make our house home, I marvel at the preparation of my soul and how I was increasingly sensing impending change with a need for quiet, green space, community and a place for inner refreshment. It’s a reminder to listen and that God does prepare us for what is ahead.
As I’ve put our home together, I’ve taken extra effort to make the small spaces matter, to bring beauty into corners that may not be noticed by anyone but myself. I featured photography from trips I’ve taken in the past. It’s a place we want to share. Our back yard is tiny, but is framed with trees, green as far as the eye can see and a beautiful pond. We look forward to the sound of laughter and enjoyment as we are joined by loved ones. Meanwhile, here are a few images to share with you.
A shout out to Home and Cottages in Edmonton. They taught me to refinish furniture (my kitchen table set, night tables and dresser), and is the place I found our lovely lower level family room furniture. #shoplocal
